How does a nursing bra work?
You can simply detach each cup of a nursing bra by loosening the clip hooked onto the bra strap. Allowing you to free a breast without taking off your bra. You can easily detach the clip with one hand, so your other hand is free to hold your baby. Tip: if you want to wear a nursing bra during the night, wear one without underwires as this is better for your breasts.
Which size should you wear?
Your breasts continue to grow during your pregnancy. Therefore it is wise to buy a nursing bra after week 36 as you will then more or less know how big your breasts have gotten. For a size indication you can just stick to the bra size you're wearing at that moment. Make sure that the nursing bra fits well when wearing it on the last hook, this way, you can tighten the nursing bra when you loose weight after giving birth. Keep in mind that you should also be able to fit nursing pads in the cups.
What is a maternity bra?
A maternity bra is a bra of which the cups are made off a stretchy fabric giving your breasts the space to grow. Just like a nursing bra, a maternity bra does not feel tight or cut in your skin but it does give you the extra support you need. The difference with a nursing bra is the fact that a nursing bra is multifunctional as you can loosen its cups for breastfeeding.
Non-wired bra or sports bra
A normal underwire bra can be uncomfortable to wear during pregnancy and irritate your chest. Another great option is to wear a non-underwire bra or a sports bra. So you have (almost) the feeling of not wearing a bra - and have a large selection of great models.
